Huge Database

I am currently importing 1.4 million records to our database. It will be exciting to see how SQL server handles this large number of records and how will our application cope with the size.

I have never worked with so much data before, on my previous position, the most records we have on a table would amount to thousand records, thus DB performance might not be an issue.

Of many interviews

Well, not as many as previous job hunting (read: job hopping) process. Got about 4 interviews, 2 offers. I accepted one of the offers, thank God the process wasn’t too complicated this time.n Read the rest of this entry »

My Art Auction nearly there

I spent a whole day today trying to integrate PayPal to My Art Auction website. It was quite hard to understand the way Paypal’s sandbox work, spent hours doing trying to make a test case for the payment process. But I think I got it already, just need more testing tomorrow.
Will this be my last e-commerce project for S3Group, I am not sure (there’s a review coming next month that adds another factor to consider on my next move).. I just need to make it good, robust and well documented.. Having said that, I know that I didn’t do a good job at documenting product and process, I regretted focussing the majority of my study time to code and problem solving, when there are other spectrum of software development that completely ignored (documentation, version control, software production etc).

The B Strikes Back

Bored.. again.. I guess that’s just who I am, someone who’s having a short span interest (luckily there are things that I never get tired of).
Work has been quite boring lately, well what do I expect, of course every job will be boring once you know everything there is to know. Sure with the latest project that I working on, I got to work with intensively with AJAX for data processing, but even with AJAX, the underlying system is the same.n Read the rest of this entry »

Last minute

Don’t you just hate it, when problem comes within 10 minutes before you go home? Was preparing to leave, when the phone rang, it can’t be good I thought. And yep, we encountered a problem with a module that we developed.
Brings back the memory of working for WBC, when the last 30 mins before closing time is usually the busiest part of the day.
I don’t mind work overtime especially for HPA and Coles before, the pay rate is quite good :P Hm. There’s a difference working for big company and a small company I suppose, not saying which one is better, both have their own pros and cons. With big company, rules and conditions are more defined, have unions and things like that. With small company, it’s very flexible and you get the opportunity to contribute more.

Weekend..

felixt.org was off from the www for few hours today, apparently my subscription with Hostingshop has expired. They usually send me email remainder weeks before, but not this time, forgot to ask why.. Luckily they were quick to respond to my queries, once i paid online, i emailed em and then they re-activate me accnt. Was afraid for a moment that felixt.org will be snatched by domain squatters :P Well, even if it happend, can always find get other domains i suppose..
Hm, will not be able to rest tomorrow, need to do some packing up, shopping and then look for a new unit. Also got group meeting at 5pm. Hm.. dun feel like spending more time on this assignment, it’s abt time the other members contribute more.. i aim happy with a pass so … oh yeah, need to hit the gym as well, once a week exercise is really far from ideal, have to life with it i suppose.. exercise is kinda luxury thing for me right now (timewise).
Installed PhpBB on Confucius Tech new website. Integrated Charcoal2 template with the website layout, the template matches the website design very well. Looking at Confucius Tech’s current website and forum, reminds me of the good old days of CS ans WC3.. Why do people have to grow up? Can’t we all just play comp games forever..

S3Group site relaunch

S3 Group has relaunched their new website. Looks heaps better than the previous one, the flash puzzle game adds a good touch to the site.
I wasn’t involved in any of design btw.. :( so couldn’t claim any involvement. Been working on the auction site, functionality wise it’s almost there, client is very slow in getting back to us about the site design. Once the design is approved, we’re going to implement the site fully.

3 years 8 months

It has been 3 years and 8 months. I can’t believe it has taken me this long. Are those years wasted? I am not sure, despite all of my efforts and struggles, I realised that God alone that make things happen or not happening. Really can’t do anything on my own..
3 years and 8 months, I would’ve given up.. Where to from here? One thing ticked off from my to do list of life. At the end of the day life is really about ticking off checkboxes on your to do list.
